Watch that Water!

How much have you thought about the wonderful gift of water?  Did you know that our bodies are 65% water, and the ocean is 97% water?  Water is the Number One need of humanity, and without it we’d quickly perish.  We use water inside the home for bathing/showering and grooming, washing clothes and dishes, flushing the toilet, and generally keeping the place clean. Similarly, we use water outside the house for watering lawns and gardens or using sprinklers, washing cars, and to fill hot tubs and pools. All in all, though most of these uses are justified and necessary, we waste an excessive amount of water by simply not paying attention to efficient use and conservation.

For instance, did you know that the average home wastes 11,461 gallons of water a year?

There are some easy things you can do to conserve water – like taking a shower instead of a bath, turning off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth, resisting the urge to refill the Jacuzzi every week…  But there are also some things that may be beyond your control.  If you’ve noticed some strange patterns in your water bill, you could have a leak.  Try turning off all water (even the ice maker) for one hour, and checking the before-and-after water meter readings.  If there’s any water usage showing during that hour, you could have a leak.  If you do, often the fix is simple.
