The Secret to Hiring a Good Plumber

When you need help with the plumbing in your home it can be hard to figure out which plumber to call. Yes! Air Conditioning and Plumbing put together a quick list of some of the things that you should look for when you hire a plumber in your area.

Licensed and Insured

One of the most important things that you should check is to make sure that your plumber is licensed to perform plumbing services and that the plumbers are insured. If something happens while the plumber is on your property you want to know that you’re shielded from any legal liabilities. At Yes! Air Conditioning and Plumbing, our plumbers are all fully licensed and insured so that you have nothing to worry about.

Offers Complete Services

Your plumbing system is intricately designed and connected. When you start to have problems with one component it could mean that another part of the system is in trouble as well. Unless your plumber offers a wide range of services they won’t be able to tell if a piece of equipment on the other side of the house needs attention as well.

Another reason that you want to find a plumbing contractor that offers a wide range of services is so that you don’t have to call anyone else. Hiring a plumber that can fix your pipes and your water heater will save you from having to call another plumber if both of those components need attention.

Check Reviews

Another fairly reliable source of information is customer reviews on popular review sites online. Obviously, you can’t trust everything that you read on the internet. But if you take what you read with a grain of salt, or see a lot of the same types of comments for a particular company, you should be able to get a fairly reasonable idea of how reliable the company is.

Written Estimate

Another main thing that you want to make sure that you get from your plumber is a written contract with a final price on it. This will make sure that things don’t change as the project progresses and that you don’t have to worry about having “the meter running”.

When you need a good plumbing technician call a local trusted expert. The plumber you hire should have years of experience working with all kinds of plumbing systems and components, and should be able to talk with you about water heater repair, water treatment systems, and a full range of drain and sewer problems.

Signs You Need Water Line Replacement

Unlike your wastewater disposal system, which relies on the gravitational force of the earth to move organic waste out of your home, your water supply line and piping rely on pressure. Whether you have a well pump or receive the water from the municipal supply system, you depend upon the integrity and good working condition of the water line, also known as the “water main,” that supplies your home with potable water.

Its location depends upon the layout of your home, but as with any underground pipe, it is subject to certain risks of root penetration and other damage, as well as the perennial issue of failure relating to old age. Fortunately, you don’t have to be in the dark about what goes on underground. There are several signs that you need water line replacement. Here are a few of the most common.

  • Low pressure. One of the common signs that something is wrong with your water supply is low pressure. While there may be a leak inside your home, or some other issue, the problem could be caused by a leak in your water line. Because the pressure relies so much on the integrity of this pipe, even minor leaks can lead to low pressure issues. And without the right amount of pressure, many of your plumbed appliances will suffer accordingly.
  • Spike in your water bill. Make sure you keep an eye on your water bill each month. If you notice any surprising or sudden spikes in your energy costs without a corresponding increase in the amount of water you use, then there might be something wrong with your water line. Water line leaks can be caused by various factors. If there are any trees nearby, tree root penetration is a constant risk to underground plumbing. They exert an incredible amount of pressure as they move underground, and if large enough, they can actually penetrate your water line.
  • Wet spots in the yard. Unless it’s raining or flooding, then this is more or less a sure sign that something is wrong with your water main. Such a major leak may have also significantly cut down on your water pressure, as well. If you have wet spots in your yard accompanied by a foul odor, you may have a problem with you sewer main.
  • No water. This one seems a bit obvious, but if, after you’ve checked your main shutoff valve, you still don’t have water, the line may have collapsed. While your water line was built to last, nothing lasts forever, and it may have simply collapsed under the weight of the earth it had supported for so many years.

Water line replacement is not the massive and invasive procedure it used to be. Today’s trenchless technology allows your plumber to use a couple of targeted holes and replace the water line efficiently and effectively. Call your local plumber today to learn more about what they can do for your home.

How to Avoid Sewer and Plumbing Problems in Phoenix, AZ

ow to Avoid Sewer and Plumbing Problems in Phoenix, AZ

Avoid Plumbing Problems n Phoenix AZ

Nothing is more frustrating when it comes to the upkeep of a home or business then sewer or water line or Plumbing problems. Almost every homeowner and commercial property owner has their own horror stories of sewer and water line failures. Not only are the issues unsanitary, they always seem to happen at the most inconvenient times, and they can also be very costly.

Plumbing Problems sewer-and-water-lines-Phoenix

Here are 4 things you should know about the sewer and water lines under your home or business:

1. This point cannot be emphasized enough. There isn’t a plumbing problem in the world that gets better with time. Pipes are kind of like vehicles, the longer you let something go, the more likely you are to find yourself stranded on the side of the road, probably in the dead of summer. Leaks waste thousands of gallons of water and increase your water bill significantly and a sewer emergency is going to rack up the cost of a plumber much quicker than the cost of periodical upkeep or inspection.

2. 90% of slow drains are from blocked sewer lines. Blockages can occur from many different things, but some of the most common are: construction debris, tree roots, improper installation, and crushed & disjointed pipes. High-tech plumbers, like the professionals at Moon Valley Plumbing, have integrated video technology into our industry and we can now avoid tearing up a customer’s property looking for the problem area. Using a flexible, fiber-optic video camera that is threaded through the sewer or water lines, we can now view and record the inner workings of your pipes and diagnose any problem, efficiently and accurately.

3. Many water and sewer lines are made of: copper, PVC, galvanized steel; the worst material for pipes to be made out of is a product call Blue Polybutylene. Blue Poly is actually a type of plastic; in the past, it was thought to be a cheap and reasonable alternative to copper, but in reality it has been the culprit of disastrous leaks and even lawsuits. Thought leaders and industry experts, like Moon Valley Plumbing, replace the defective Blue Poly with Black Poly, a much stronger and proven substance.

4. When you are doing your research for a plumbing professional, take these thoughts into consideration. Does the plumber have an honest reputation? Check Yelp and other review sites.

• Does the plumber make an effort to show that they cultivate customer relationships? Unfortunately, there are many companies out there just to make a quick buck.
• Always check that the plumber you are considering is licensed, bonded & insured. See if they perform background checks on their employees who will be interfacing with your family or employees and the property.
• It is easy for an “afternoon job” to turn into a job that takes half a week; find a plumber that charges by the job, not by the hour and promises to stick to their estimate.

Avoid the hassle of a huge sewer or water line problem and find yourself a good plumber. You can download this coupon to get your free inspection of your house or business, and remember Moon Valley Plumbing has 24-hour emergency service, just in case you waited too long.

4 Tips that will Help You Save Water in the Coming Summer

Save Water in the Coming Summer

4 Tips that will Help You Save Water in the Coming Summer

You can feel it already, the heat creeping into the middle of our days; before we know it our brief Arizona spring will be a thing of the past and Phoenix’s famous summer will be upon us.
save water
One of the only ways residents of Arizona and the Phoenix Metropolitan area such as: Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa can cool off during the long formidable summers is through water, lots and lots of water.  Pools are an extremely widespread luxury in Phoenix.  Their commonality is most evident when flying in to Sky Harbor, it seems as if every house has little aqua and blue squares in their backyards.

Though we treasure our pools, they do require a lot of work and upkeep.  The constant running of your pool equipment, more frequent showers due to perspiration and the need to cool off as well as the extra water you will have to distribute for your plants, yard and pets all will put additional pressure on your pipes and plumbing systems.

Before Phoenix’s summer hits in full force is the best time to make sure that all of your pipes and plumbing are in working condition.  Having your air conditioner break down in the middle of the summer is terrible, but having to turn off your water for a day to make repairs can be equally as terrible and frustrating.  Here are 4 preventative tips that you can take to make sure that your coming summer isn’t touched by a plumbing disaster.

1.  It is inevitable that your water and electric bills are going to go up during the summer.  In order to try and cut back on this as much as possible, go through your home and check for leaks.  Leaks can waste a larger amount of money then you can imagine and over time worsen and cost you a ton of money.  So get them fixed quick!

2.  The average swimming pool takes 18,000-20,000 gallons of water to fill.  Though you usually have to fill your pool all the way up just once, you should monitor it for leaks as well.  In order to conserve water, lessen your water bill and protect your pipes, you can look into getting a pool cover which helps a lot with evaporation.

3.  Sometimes cracks and clogging issues are hidden deep within pipes.  Moon Valley Plumbing has video technology that gives us a leg up on finding the leaks and problems even in the most inconvenient places.  We are able to thread the video equipment into the smallest pipes and crevices and the camera then records the images.

4.  Make sure that you are watering your grass and landscaping at night in order cut back on the amount of water that is wasted from evaporation when watering occurs in the middle of the day.  Also, make sure that your sprinklers are not constantly hitting the sidewalk or the driveway.  Adjust them so that the water is hitting its mark and not being wasted and make sure that you turn them off completely if it is going to rain.

These tips will help you save water and money money during the long, hot months of summers.  If you check your home for leaks and find one, give your friendly neighborhood plumber, Moon Valley a call.  We can also come out and perform a video inspection on any pipes that you are concerned about, so you can enjoy the water coming from your pipes worry free.

Plumbing Tips: 5 Common Reasons to Call a Plumber

Plumbing tips – 5 Common Reasons to Call a Plumber

The plumbing in your home is a complex arrangement of pipes, joints, fittings, adapters, drains, faucets, and valves.  Even recognizing a problem can be difficult amidst the array of fixtures; not to mention that the majority of the plumbing may be hidden behind walls, under floors, or even buried in the concrete slab upon which your home sits.  The task of identifying a problem is bewildering enough, not to mention actually fixing the problem.  That’s why it is important to recognize a plumbing problem when you see one.  That way you’ll always be prepared to call your local plumber when you need advice or service.

Plumbing
Let’s take a look at the top 5 reasons to call for plumbing repair:

  1. No water. After you’ve checked the water main and fixture valves, you may begin to wonder what’s going on.  If you’ve not defaulted on your water utility bill, then you should call a plumber to find out what’s going on with your plumbing.
  2. Leak.  Depending on your level of DIY confidence, you may try to repair a leak with whatever materials you have on hand.  That may well be fine, as long it holds the water in while you call a pro.  While some leaks are straightforward, small and slow leaks can be notoriously deceptive. You may have a leak in your walls for months with only a small brown water stain for evidence.  If you catch it early, then you can prevent a lot of frustration and damage later on.
  3. Decrease in water pressure.  Unlike your wastewater system, your potable supply is pressurized.  If you notice your shower and faucets reduce to a fraction of their previous pressure, then it could indicate a hidden leak somewhere in your system.  If you have a slab foundation, then there may be further evidence of a slab leak, if your foundation has shifted or settled.
  4. Inadequate hot water.  You depend upon your water heater nearly every day, but you probably don’t think about it too much.  That is, until you don’t have enough hot water for your morning shower….  Inadequate hot water can often be traced back to a worn-out heating element or thermostat issue.
  5. Frequent basement flooding.  Depending on the topographical grade of your property and the location of your house, you may be subject to frequent basement flooding. If you don’t already have a sump pump, it’s a great way to keep your basement clean and dry during inclement weather, when the ground swells with water.

Keep the emergency number of your local plumber handy in case you quickly need professional assistance.

Integrating Plumbing into Your New Remodel, What You Need to Know

Remodeling your kitchen or bathroom is an exciting project that can really help turn a house into a home.  When you remodel your kitchen or bathroom you have a great opportunity to make these important rooms in your home more illustrative of your style and sensibilities.  It is definitely not a project that should be rushed into and you will need to research and find a contractor and plumber that you trust and one that has a good reputation.  Make sure that they can answer all of your questions and concerns regarding your remodeling project.

One of the first questions that you really need to ask yourself is exactly why you are remodeling these rooms.  Is it because their aesthetics do not appeal to you?  Or are you dissatisfied with any of the more practical, functional features of your kitchen and bathroom?  Obtaining a definitive answer to these questions prior to the start of the project with help prevent any second thoughts or change of heart once the remodel is underway.  If you are going to make the commitment to improve your kitchen or bathroom with a remodeling project then you should be 100% satisfied with the results.

There are many other considerations that must be made.  If you are remodeling your kitchen, for instance, do you want that to be strictly a functional preparation area?  Or would you like to dine and entertain in the kitchen as well?  If you do not have a separate dining room you will probably want to make the kitchen a comfortable place to sit down and eat.  If you do have a dining room you may opt for a central island in your kitchen to make it more convenient to prepare and create meals.

Even the selection of your toilet, shower and other fixtures must be carefully considered.  Do you have children?  Does your bathtub need any special features or accessibility options for older residents?  You do not want these rooms to be out of step with the style of the rest of your home, but you also must keep in mind any special requirements of these fixtures so that they are safe and comfortable for everyone in the home.

Make sure that you think about your vision for your new kitchen and bathroom and articulate that vision to your contractors and plumbers so that the project will be just what you envisioned.

4 Elements Every Reliable Phoenix Plumber Should Have

4 Elements Every Reliable Phoenix Plumber Should Have

Look for these important elements if you are in need of a Phoenix Plumber.

The people that you surround yourself with impact the person you are and the person you are becoming.  This piece of wisdom (usually first passed down to us from our parents when we bring a questionable friend home from school) coincides with business as well.
Phoenix Plumber
A good litmus test of the character of your company is to see who is reaching out to partner with you.  Let us look at some of the other elements that every good plumber needs to have in their repertoire.

1.  Like we mentioned above, it is always good to see who is partnering up with a plumbing company, it is like getting a professional reference or a good Yelp review.  Moon Valley Plumbing is the preferred vender of Southwest Gas, a fact that we are very proud of and information that we gladly provide to our potential customers so that they know that we can be trusted.

2.  Providing plumbing services is a privilege, you are asking us into your home, your space, letting us engage with your family.  No plumber should take that privilege lightly, and MVP does not.  Never use a Phoenix Plumber who doesn’t provide the correct information on their employees.  They all should be screened and have had thorough background checks.  MVP is careful to perform background checks on all of our employees.

3.  Have you seen that commercial for Turbo Tax where “Bob” is a master plumber one day and a tax expert the next?  If you haven’t, watch it now:

That commercial is focused on the point that you need to have someone who knows what they are doing prepare your taxes, but on the flip side, you also need to have an actual master plumber be checking out your pipes!  Make sure that any plumber that you allow to service your home is licensed, bonded and insured.

4.  Our slogan is that we are honest, affordable and good, all of which are true, but every good plumber also needs to be one other thing.  Respectful, respectful of your property, by cleaning up after and not damaging any of your flooring or landscaping; also by respecting your time by showing up when we said we would and respecting your finances by always staying within our original quote.  Respect is one of the reasons why MVP always charges by the job and not by the hour.

Have you seen our new corporate video on our home page?  If you missed it, watch it here.

MVP is proud of the strides we have taken and the reputation that we have built.  We are protective of it and understand that a good reputation, honesty and trust are built job by job.  If you have any plumbing problems in Phoenix, Glendale or any of the surrounding areas, give us a chance to impress you and turn you into a lifetime client; after all, everyone needs a good Phoenix Plumber and we have all of the elements that every smart customer could desire.

Is Your Hot Water Letting You Down? Here are 3 Common Problems and Their Solutions

There is just something about a nice, sustainable warm shower at the end of a long day.  Even the toughest person can start pouting like a big baby when they realize the only shower available to them that day is a cold one.  Right now, the East Coast is enduring freezing cold weather; having a feeble water heater would be unbearable, for nothing warms you up like a hot shower!  Even in places that aren’t suffering through a bitter cold winter like Phoenix, Arizona (where people don jackets, scarves and mittens as soon as it hits anywhere near 60°) residents still can’t live without their hot water.

Here are 3 common problems people have with their water heaters and 3 things you can do to try to combat these problems to ensure that your house has an ample amount of hot water readily available:

Problem #1:  The water in your home takes way too long to heat up.

This is a common problem and one that needs to be fixed immediately.  A ton of water is being wasted, running down the drain, while we wait and occasionally test the water to see if it is ready yet.  One of the solutions to this problem is to install a point-of-use tankless water heater.  This will help give you immediate access to hot water for your shower and sink needs, saving you time and money and also saving the world’s supply of water.

Problem #2:  The water in your home runs out too quickly.

Is there a mad rush for the shower in your home?  Do some unnamed individuals bang on the bathroom door if a shower is going on for too long?  This is a frustrating problem and can cause tension in any household.  This issue is usually a symptom of the water heater tank size being too small for the water needs of your home.  One way to fix this problem is to install a bigger water heater or to install a tankless water heater.  Talk to the experts to figure out what is a good solution for your particular household, taking into consideration the number of individuals in the house and other activities that  require hot water such as laundry.

Problem #3: The water in your homes does not have enough pressure.

If your water is hot but it just isn’t providing the stream that you need to remove the shampoo from your hair or the grime from your dishes you could be having a problem with your pipes or with your water heater.  When was the last time that you flushed your pipes or your water heater?  This is something that you should do annually.  This is a great preventive measure you can take to ensure the workability of the plumbing in your home.  It is also a good first option to try if you are already having a pressure problem.  You will need to call a professional to help guide you through this process.

No matter what kind of weather your area is currently having, we all want hot water every day.  A broken, finicky or faulty water heater can put a sudden kibosh on our shower dreams.  And how about those dirty dishes that really need a soak or those kids who seem to happily rediscover the hose and dirt every single day, they are going to need another bath.  Make sure that you take the correct preventive measures and install the proper equipment for your household so that a cold shower will never have to be your only option.  Call Moon Valley Plumbing today to receive your free consultation and if you like what you hear, you can use that $50.00 off coupon for your installation.
